We spent four days in Queenstown which was great spending so long in one place and not having to re-pack our backpacks every day. We arrived in the afternoon of 22nd Feb, and as it's a bit of a party city, all the girls decided to go out shopping for something nice to wear in the evening (I mean what else do you do when you arrive at the adventure capital of NZ?!)
We went back to the hostel for some free Shepherds pie then headed out in the evening to a bar called The Find where you can drink cocktails out of tea pots! We also went to a bar called Buffalo which was fun.
The next day me, Lowri, our new fab friends Emma & Lucy had all booked to do the Nevis swing... The LARGEST SWING IN THE WORLD!! I will post a video of it as soon as I can... But basically you are suspended 134ft (ish) in the air, then dropped where there's a few seconds of terrifying free fall before swinging across the canyon. I may have shed tears... But I still did it! We were very glad to have conquered it. Even Emma & Lucy who had done a skydive were terrified. Lowri however... Was cool as a cucumber!! Luckily me and Low were strapped together, or I'd never have gone through with it! As a reward we then went for a Fergburger... Apparently 'the best burger in the world'. They were pretty special, and pretty humungous. We of course went out again for drinks in the evening to celebrate and commiserate our last night with Roxy (*sob sob* - miss you!)
We had a lazy day on 24th. A well needed lay in then a walk down to the lake for a picnic and lay in the sun. Queenstown is a really beautiful place, with the biggest, bluest lake we've seen. It was our other friend Seb's last night with us (*sob* again - miss you Seb!) so we went to the little park by the main street which had a cute little river flowing through it, and we sat and had a few drinks before heading back to the hostel.
On 25th Feb most of our group left us for the day to do the Milford Sounds cruise (we had ours included as part of our Deep South package) so we had another leisurely morning before heading out to get the gondola up to the top of the mountain with Rhea, Ben and Bella where me, Ben and Bella did some luging!! Luging is where you're sat in a toboggan-like-thing and race around the tracks. The views at the top were incredible and it was so much fun. We spent an hour playing cards in the sun before getting the gondola back down to get ready for our last night out with our bus buddies who were departing Queenstown to head back up north in the morning, whilst we headed off to the Deep South. It was an emotional time leaving everyone, but we're catching up with a lot of them at various places during the rest of our travels. More on the Deep South in the next blog... I think I've rambled on enough in this chapter!

Mum (Judy) Absolutely brilliant photo of 'the swing'. You can tell just by looking that you are REALLY enjoying yourselves. It's a relief to hear you are reverting to type and shopping for party clothes - all this outdoor healthy activity just didn't seem natural. Lots of love Mum xxx
Mum PS. Can you explain how the optical illusion photos of you and Lowri in the room were done please?
Chris Blackler Hi Jess. We just went wow and waaaggghhh when we saw the picture of you and Lowri on the swing. How brilliant was that ! We are SO enjoying all your blogs and what a great time you are having. Look forward to more piccies. Once you get back, you will have to organise a big reunion with all the friends you've made. Pat Ibbetson Hi Jess, great to read of your adventures. Sounds wonderful. I am having a fab time in KL with your Mum and Andy. Love A.Pat
reginafilange The optical illusion was a room which was smaller and higher at one end so whoever was on the left looked bigger. The floor pattern made it look like the same size throughout the room xx
