We spent five nights from the 22nd December until the 27th December in Patong, Phuket.
It was as seedy as Pattaya at times, there was definitely no tuk-tuk rides because they wanted to charge at least an arm and a leg for the shortest of journeys and if it was long distance you netter get on the streets with the girls, but saying that we enjoyed it. The sun was out and the beach was dreamy, so no real compaints.
We spent Christmas eve with our two lovely friends, Kris and Charl, in an Irish bar being entertained by two Thai singers, eating the biggest pies ever and getting ever so slightly tipsy. Was a great night.
Then Christmas day we had booked to have a traditional meal, to which you have all seen the pictures on facebook, at 'Stan by the River' restaurant (mainly because he was serving mashed potato!!) so we spent the morning meandering around until it was time to get dressed ready to go. We hired a bike to get there (again, because theprice of a taxi was more than the meal was costing us, ridiculous!). It was about an hours drive away and it was windy, then we ended up on a motorway so you could say, it was a pretty scary journey all told, but it was worth it. The meal and Stan (a 60 something year old cockney) and Gail (his Thai wife) were lovely, perfect day, just what we wanted.
Boxing day was spent with Kris and Char, sun-bathing on the beach and playing in the sea. Can't really complain at that! Skyping home and speaking to our wonderful families was the best bit though. We miss you all loads, even more so at Christmas. Still we managed to get ourselves out for a drink and enjoy ourselves.
So that's Christmas wrapped up (see what i've done there?!) and we're heading off to Krabi for New Year xxx

Dani Wow I totally reatle to this. When I first moved to China it was the scariest thing signing that long term lease. Hell, part of the reason I started traveling was because I can't stand lock-in commitment haha. It's a little ironic in a way. I guess it all comes down to what kind of commitment. At this moment now that I'm not traveling I refuse to sign a long term lease. I'm just doing things month to month b/c the thought of signing a 12 month lease means I won't be able to move abroad again for another year, and that's just not going to work since I want to be able to pick up and go when I'm ready to head out again What I think happens is you just know that this commitment is right. You just know that person is right for you, that city, that country, that apartment, that couch. It's all about your gut.
