Vang Vieng. This is the party central of Laos. The main attraction is tubing. Basically you hire out an inner tube from a tractor tyre then float down the river stopping off at the riverside bars where you can have a drink, jump off ridiculously high platforms and swing off trapeze style swings. You get a colourful bracelet from each bar you stop off at and get painted with hearts, stars, 'i love laos' etc so just look plain ridiculous by the time you reach the end but no-one cares and you can get away with walking around painted for the next few days because it doesn't come off! FUN!
The picture proves that it is actually a very scenic place to be aswell and not jut full of drunken louts. lol!
The journey to Vang Vieng was hilarious, it was meant to take 2 and a half hours but the bus broke down after about 3 hours and they were trying to fix it for at least two hours, telling us that another bus would come and pick us up, but none materialised so we ended up flagging down a sawngthaew and paying again for that which took a further two hours to get us to Vang Vieng, so total journey time actually ended up being at least 7 hours, but we arrives safely so no probs.
We were in Vang Vieng for 4 nights, 3days in total but i only saw 2 days because i felt so sick so slept for a full day. One day we tubed then the next day we went to find a blue lagoon which was reccommended in the lonely planet book. What a disappointment, there was a tiny little pool that was freezing because it was shaded by loads of trees. We did see a really huge spider in one of the trees though that entertained Dave for a while because he could throw stuff in its web and watch it creep to catch it, then be disappointed when it realised it was a piece of wood and not food.
Well that's it for Vang Vieng i think. A nice short one for you to read instead of masses of information. ha
Lots of love xx
