Arrived in Sydney early Friday morning (slightly later than planned and on an Emirates flight due to our original flight being cancelled!!!!)
After settling at the hostel (eventually after mix up with our free shuttle bus i.e. it not arriving!), we headed to 'Cotton On' a cheap clothing shop for lots of WARM clothes as it's frickin freezing here!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy in our scarfs and jumpers we headed down George Street to find the famous sights of Sydney.....
We were like giddy kids as we first saw the Opera House and Bridge, and the cameras got busy! We walked through 'The Rocks' area of the Harbour before strolling across the bridge and enjoyed our first sunset in Sydney.
Saturday we hopped on the sightseeing bus and were true tourists, with our hoods up snuggling for warmth on the top deck (the sun was out, but not enough to heat us up). We hopped off at the Opera House, Darling Harbour/Cockle Bay, and Sydney Tower. We headed up the Tower for amazing views of Sydney (see pics) and also did the 'Oz Trek' (an insight into Australia and a simulated ride through the different wonders of Oz).
We're still to experience the nightlife of Sydney, as Rachel's been a little bit under-the-weather full of cold.
Today we ventured across the Harbour Bridge into North Sydney where we popped in to a Huddersfield Town Football Supporters BBQ! (Dad Walsh will be pleased :-) True to Brit form, the sun soon disappeared and the rain began to fall.... Luckily only a shower, the bbq was turned on and the sausages started sizzling, mmm.
This afternoon we visited the Wildlife World at Darling Harbour for our glimpse of the famous Oz animals. We saw kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, wombats, the most dangerous snakes and spiders, and the largest cockroach and ants! urgh! Koalas are by the far the cutest things we've ever seen, and they're sleepy all the time (just like Ciara).
Tomorrow our plan is to walk the Bondi to Coogee beach and cliff walk (with a packed picnic) before whale watching in the afternoon.
Love to all xxxxxxxxxxx
(p.s. for those that noticed, yes Rachel's got rid of the beach blonde!)
