How do I attempt to put into words what I have seen in the past two and a half weeks?? It has only been two and a half weeks since I left Panorama, and in that time I have spent a week in Miami, a week in Orlando and am now in New York. It feels like a dream most of the time to be at all of these places, especially seeing things such as the Statue of Liberty, Chrysler Building and Times Square here in New York. I am sitting on the subway at the moment, heading out to a New York Yankees game. We have had a little bit of a mishap with the train systems (it is crazy crazy huge so its really not all that surprising haha) and so we are running a little bit late but we also only paid $1 for the tickets so we are really not all that fussed!!
Heres my attempt at a quick recap of Miami!!
We arrived quite late on Wednesday evening and so by the time we got to our hostel (which was in the middle of South Beach) it was almost dark. We checked in and then went for a wander to find some dinner. We found this really really cute diner where we had a burger and milkshake - it was amazing and the décor was really authentic.. The waitress was saying something about how it used to be in an entirely different State and then they realized that Miami had no Diner so they literally picked up the building and moved it into where it is now. I was so full by the end of dinner that Cam just about had to roll me home!! We learnt a valuable lesson here though, with the amount that I eat it is often better to get one main and a side to share between the two of us rather than a main each. The meals are pretty huge here so it's quite a struggle to eat it all most of the time.
The next morning we decided to do some exploring and we ended up finding a street of shops similar to Cuba street but full of designer labels. They were cool to have a look through but a little disheartening as they were well out of my price range!! Miami has two very distinct classes. There is the really really rich, and then the really really poor, and this is reflected in the shops too. There seemed to be either these expensive labels, or else these mass produced cheap (and I mean diamantes, fluro, 'I'm sexy and I know it' all over everything, the shortest shorts you have ever seen, shiny dresses and boobs galore) shops so there were really slim pickings in terms of shopping. I managed to buy a couple of things. We also found a supermarket so got lots of food for the coming week so that we weren't eating out all the time. Cam and I both had a huge craving for some veges. Despite the weather forecast saying that there were chances of thunderstorms, it was a gorgeous day, and the heat was thick and humid. I was walking around in a summer dress for the first time in months! It felt good :)
Our mission to the supermarket allowed us to buy a packet of Twinkies and some strawberries and so after dinner we sat on the beach, ate Twinkies and Strawberries and watched the sea. It was such a relaxing place to be!
The second day we did some more wandering, and saw some really cool stuff; we found a Pink Police car in support of Breast Cancer, a sexual art museum (we didn't go inside… They wanted like $30 per ticket.. we decided that was too much for the novelty of it!), and the Wolfsonian Museum. We did go into the Wolfsonian, and it was really cool. Lots of history which was interesting to read about. Later that day we went back to the beach and ended up watching a thunderstorm that was hitting Miami. We didn't stay for too long though as we were scared we would end up absolutely soaking!!
On our third day we headed out to Aventrua Mall to have a look as the weather was pretty crappy. This mall was crazy huge, but once again, the shops were quite expensive so didn't really buy anything. Tonight for dinner we had the best pizza I have ever eaten, it was so incredible! We headed to the beach again, this time armed with a bottle of wine.
Sunday was finally a really nice day and so we spent this at the beach. It was the nicest beach I have ever swum at, very warm, clear water, and amazing sand. Monday was the same, spent at the beach however we also had to unfortunately pack. We went for a run along the beach to end our stay, and then went for one final swim!
The next morning we left for Orlando, where we went to DisneyWorld three times, and Universal twice.. It was awesome fun, and so freaking hot!! At Disney there were three parks, the general Magic Kingdom which is the traditional one that we went to when we came over, and then Hollywood studios (which is Disneys's version of Universal) and then Epcot. The first two were awesome but Epcot was a little bit boring.. The rides were fun but there weren't many and then the rest of the park was a world showcase which meant that there were just heaps of stations from around the world.. No rides, it was all education based which really wasn't what we were wanting to do.. That was the only day that we didn't absolutely love!! Universal has two parks, and we went to Hogsmeade! It was so amazing.. We went out for lunch to the Three Broomsticks and had some butterbeer - I felt like a Wizard and not a muggle!!! Hehe
We also managed to find this awesome little carnival called Old Town which was just down the road from where we stayed. It had heaps of random rides, but also had a drive by of a whole lot of hot rods. Apparently they have been doing it for the last 22 years every Sat night. We also found a whole lot of really cheap stores which was nice to look through in contrast to a lot of the shopping that we have done recently!!
We are now currently in New York, but I feel that that should be for another update! xxxxx
