Trinidad not Tobago, 4th September 2008 (Tobago is where you want to go not Trinidad)
It is 36 degrees here in T&T, the humidity must be like 90% or something, you start sweating as soon as you walk outside..... Luckily the room we have managed to book (The Melbourne in) has air conditioning - get in there!
Love traveling forward in time by a few hours, we woke up at 8:30am UK time but it was still 3:30 am here, Wicked back to bed for another 3 hours. Today we have been for a run, the humidity is crazy, Rach nearly fainted and Adam was just a puddle of sweat as soon as we walk out the door (thank god for the Aircon).
The food here is real and it tastes like its all organic, fresh, ripe, sometime a bit bruised or off color but that is real.... Tomatoes, carrots, banana's all fantastic. The cab drivers want blood for driving you anywhere and will be your personal tour guide for the day if you give them your left arm or the equivalent of $150. We are in the main city (Port of Spain, about 30 mins drive from the airport) so just been chilling out at the hotel and going for small walks when we can bare the heat! Maracas bay is a 45 min drive over the hills, apparently very beautiful but too expensive to get too, you can catch a bus but we were advised against it as they are very unreliable and you could find your self looking for accommodation for the night. We really only left the room to go and get some food and to cook. It was nice just chilling out and relaxing in the aircon room and researching the where we are going next. We could have skipped Trinidad, its not like we expected being in the Caribbean sea. We
didnt get to explore its true beauty as it would have been too expensive to get around in a cab or to hire a car with no insurance!
We have boarded our flight to Caracas on the smallest commercial plane either of us have ever been on. We are in seat 12 and that is the very back seats on the plane, so we have a full plane and a total of 48 passengers! Errkkkk the turbulence really shakes the plane. You can guess that Adam was quietly packing darkones in the corner, with sweaty palms and all that.
Not 100% sure where we are heading next. Will enquire about kite surfing this time of the year and if we cant get some lessons, we will head south to Merida for some hiking and perhaps canyoning. Its new and involves rock climbing, and going down the rapids with nothing but a life jacket.
