Lane's Oz Adventure
After a few dodgy days in the horrible Arts factory Hostel we decided to move to Backpackers Village in the centre of Byron Bay. It was a really nice hostel with a chalet like feel to it. At long last the sun had started to shine so we actually managed to get out of the hostel and do some exploring. Visted the beautiful beach and went to the top of a lookout. Some of the boys we met saw some whales out at sea but we didn't see anything the day we went.
Fi, vicky and me decided to brave the sea and went body boarding which was really funny, still haven't got the guts to do surfing, everyone in Australia is so good and they don't really seem to approve of the beginners.
I can honestly say that Byron Bay is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and I loved the atmosphere. It is so chilled out, although I am not sure if that is to do with the town or the local supply of substances from the local town Nimbin.
We had quite a few nights out at a local bar cheeky monkeys which was really good but quite rowdy. You walk in thinking where is the dance floor cause the place is full of tables, but basically the tables are the dance floors. After a few drinks it was hilarous watching everyone including myself getting up and trying to dance on these narrow tables.
We decided to have a big night out on out last day in byron so started on the goon (it's a box of wine - 5 litres which cost about $9 dollars so 4 pounds worth). It doesn't taste that bad, could have taken over from snakebite on the alcohol front. After quite a drunken night out and a bit of a hangover we left the beautiful Byron on the Thursday feeling sad.
