Well hello from the tourist capital of Greece. Funny really as the islands we've seen as dry, hilly and rocky. The houses are bright white with contrasting shutters and doors but really they have done well to con all these tourists into coming for their share of the sun.
There are tourist shops selling crappy stuff( and a lot of white clothes and jewelry) not many are busy.
We had a great 4 hr fast ferry ride here, I didn't feel sick at all.
We had an early start and had to hunt down the taxi at another site but got to the ferry in time. I was really tired after walking around Rome then Athens and 2 broken nights of sleep after sharing a 3 bedded room in Athens so slept on the boat. More walking here! Then a couple of hours beside our hotel pool! Very nice too. Then much to Courtney's disgust we had Chinese for dinner not Greek food!
Tmw we are off to the beach.
I found put today that all the dogs we have been seeing are homeless but tolerated by locals. Apparently they were rounded up prior to the Olympics and spayed and vaccinated and registered by the council then let out again after the games. Not to many puppies now . They are fed at a central site then go back to their designated areas!
Tourists try to feed them after going to buy appropriate food but they often don't eat it!
Tuesday now.
We hired a quad bike and I scared myself silky on it, did not feel stable even with 4 wheels so Courtney drove mainly. Beaches were very ordinary so did not stay long. The 2 nd day the bike wouldn't go so we hitched a ride back with wealthy Aussies who keep a boat in Greece and sail between here and Turkey for 5 months each winter!
Now we are on another island Santorini, rocky and barren too.
Hired a car today as over the bike but terrified myself going up a Mt to an archaeological site pre AD.
The road was zigzagging up , I was so worried about coming down but it was ok with little traffic. The beaches are marginally better but black and pebbly.
I had my 2 nd brief dip today- not as cold as Italy.
We are off now to the top tip of the island to see the famed sunset- probably not great as cloudy.Last night was no good either but caught a good one on Mykonis.
Trust me the Gold Coast and Sydney and the Coromandel are much better than here!
Courtney is happy re food as she loves the gryos rolls here( pita bread, chicken, salad and chips with some sauce stuff)
So all is well from the sunny warm islands.
Oh and my knee has recovered and no walking stick now or extra meds.
Thank goodness eh.
Keep up emails and travelsim texts please.
