The next day we drove up Jebel Hafeet, a small mountain 15km south of Al Ain, a small city in the southeast of the UAE nearby Oman. It is a long boring highway drive to get there... next time we'll have to figure out a more interesting route using the offroad book. We certainly had a lot of fun when we arrived though. Come to think of it, we should have hired a different car for this! We saw a nice new Toyota 86 that a couple of Koreans Americans had, perfect car for this road*. It's a lovely winding strip of tar with great views of the craggy landscape. Easiest is just to look at the playlist of videos I took of the trip :-). The road also features on 5th Gear! I was reminded of the nice winding strip of tarmac up Bokor Mountain southwest of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. I did that on a motorbike a couple of times and it would be awesome to do the same up Jebel Hafeet... another thing to do next time.
*They couldn't go up here though (see photo)!
