Bonjour!
So, today Alaina and I spent most of our time inside. It was raining in the morning and we whiled away the hours talking to people on facebook and skype and watching TV online. Eventually, our friend Christi who lives on the floor above us came down and asked if we wanted to go out for an explore. So that we did.
We wandered into Serris centre I suppose and found a few hairdressers and beauty salons, a branch for the bank that we opened accounts with (who are in partnership with Disney for employees), and small corner-type shop that sells food and household goods. This is helpful because it's about 10 minutes walk and will save time instead of going to the Val d'Europe every time we need food (especially frozen things)
After that we wandered down a little road and found loads of stalls with clothes and Bric-a-brac and the town was obviously having some kind of fete with a two man band playing guitars and singing, more and more stalls and also a community centre with tables set up about local clubs like football, tae kwon do and even dancing! After that we walked through a park back round to the shops area and went home. Alaina and I then proceeded to spend more time online. Content to listen to music and watch more TV.
For dinner, I cooked some soup that I bought from the local shop. It made about a litre of soup which I managed to eat most of! It filled three bowls because I didn't want to waste any. I think next time I'll have to only make half and save the rest! {#emotions_dlg.undecided} I'm now so full of soup I could pop!
Tomorrow I start work and I'm very excited! Although, I'm not allowed to wear make-up, jewelerey, or perfume. Make-up because it gets sweaty and make-up will come off and rub off onto the inside of the costumes. Jewelery for health and safety so they don't get caught in the costumes. And perfume because it corrodes fabric and the costumes cost 10,000euros a piece!!! Also, we're having photos taken for our employee ID's and we're all going to be make-up less :( not impressed. But we're trying on costumes and getting shown the ropes which is cool. People who are "face characters" (people who show their own face cos they look like a character) get their make-up done for them EVERY DAY! Which is amazing! So I'm looking forward to that. Apparently people who do Evil Queen sometimes do Maleficant too which would be really cool. At the shindig on Friday night I met two girls who play Maleficant, one called Kelly who's really nice and good friends with Tom (Jennings).
Everyone from Tom's formation are really friendly and have lots of advice and information for everyone. I've added a few on facebook and they talk to me quite a lot which is very comforting having such nice people around me when I'm so new and feeling quite scared being here with no family around.
I think that's all I've got to say at the moment, so I'll sign off and update you after my first day! Unfortunately we're not allowed to take photos of the backstage area (including costume etc. so I won't have photos of the work, but hopefully will of the play! - I think Alaina, Christi and I are planning on going around the park a bit after work, and we're going to try and get the others from the formation to come too, so I'll take photos then)
I've also put up some photos of my flat so check them out. It's not very big but it's liveable and it's quite nice not having to walk far for the bathroom or kitchen!!
A bientot tout le monde!
Beth xx
