Hi everyone...
Thought i'd update my journal retrospectively and tell you about my experience of Hong Kong International Airport...
Stef and I reached the airport at about 6:30 a.m. (having spend the night before completely wide awake drinking tequilla margeritas in the hotel bar until about 2:30 am). Completely intent on sleeping on the plane, we arrive to a delay of 14hrs. Along with the entire population of HK (or so it seemed) we waited patiently to try and leave the country post-typhoon. After securing some free breakfast passes (courtesy of Quantas) we managed to secure some comfy seats in the coffee shop at the airport - courtesy of a nice man called Vince from Narobi. After breaskfast we planned to sleep for a bit, ever in the hope that the flight might be bought forward by some miracle. But Vince had other ideas...he talked for SIX hours about every topic from religion to politics to alcohol to soap operas. Got so carried away that he didn't even think to check when his flight to Africa was leaving. Nice guy, but when he tried to have his photo taken with us, we had had enough. Stef tried a decoy by leaving the 'dot' out of her email address...but I feel this isn't the last we've heard of Vince...he'll be in the UK in October, conveniently as we arrive back home. Oh dear...
Oh well, Stef and I managed not to take the tiredness out on each other, but I found it difficult to understand the air stewards jokes and when Stef suggested I watch 'Failure to Launch' on the plane all I wanted was to slip slowly into a 9hr sleep coma (anyone who's seen the film will understand!).
But now we've arrived safe on Aussie soil. No more sleepless nights, no more language barriers, no more extreme weather conditions...or not for another week anyway. Solomon Islands from Monday 14th....phew
Hope everyone is well
Love Lise
