An early wake up we get a private car from our Varanasi hotel all the way up to the the Nepal border, meandering through flooded fields, bumpy roads and hectic towns. Once we hit the border it is mayhem, pedestrians and cyclists trying to squeeze past the trucks that crammed the main street. We eventually, after mud splattered legs and very close contact with locals, reached the india immigration exit office. A rather efficient affair we continued forward and stood for 10 seconds in no mans land between the two borders. On the Nepal side we sorted our visas and continued on to try and hunt down our car. Mayhem ensued again with rickshaws, busses, cars and pedestrians all trying to bustle through. We eventually found it and headed off to lumbini. With only one night there we dumped our bags and walked up to the maya Devi temple. The location of buddhas birth. A very serene environment people were sat praying, one srilankan group under the people tree were praying too. It was intteresring to see how well preserved the whole site was. We then headed back to the 'lodge' and had dinner where we bumped into a rather stressed and bereffed looking will. We spent the rest of the evening telling tales of Varanasi and our journey over the border.
