Lorna. Hi, if you read this... plenty of stickers and teaching aids are good. We are often scrambling around for decent material to work with. Pens and pencils would be great (the kids might get some of them!), rubbers (sorry, erasers!). All of that and more.... jenny is coming back to us next week and she is bringing stuff too.. if one of you can bring a potato masher - no make that 2 potato mashers!!
Cheers. Have good with KIU in Dar... Dar was my first culture shock.
Phil
If anyone sees Cheryl would you get her to email me with her and Nigs' email address. As they are not getting automatic updates about my journal like they should have been.

Phil,
Sorry I haven't emailed directly earlier. I leave in 9 days and will see you and Tom soon. I have TONS of teaching supplies and stickers. In fact, I'm going with less clothes in order to bring this stuff.
Is there something small (very small) that I could bring you guys to make you happy?
Can't wait to see you, meet you and the like! Sounds like you're doing just great. Way to go.

I have uploaded some photos to flickr but have reached my free limit. Luckily, I have finally been able to upload direct to this site, so that is what i will do in future. The ones on Flickr will stay there, but i just wont be able to add to them. Look out for new photos under TANZANIA on this site, however. Kwa Heri!

Hi Phil!
It's refreshing to hear that children are as the same wherever you go, (the swapping of place to confuse you), though it's not refreshing when its happening I know! Hopefully when the boss comes some of the problems you are all experiencing will be ironed out. As for teaching ideas - its hard to advise when as I'm not sure of the ability range but I will say that in my experience children respond to fun in learning. When teaching maths I usually try to incorporate maths games either into the lesson itself or as an reward at the end. They normally have to answer a question before each one goes to lunch (aimed at each child's ability) and they love it! Am teaching them maths bingo at the moment which helps with number recognition, if you need to make it harder they I would ask a sum and they have to check if they have the number which is the correct answer to the sum. English is never as exciting - except poetry - they love funny ones! Not sure if that's any help at all but I can always email you some more if you need them!!
The frost has arrived today and the fog is in the post says the weatherman so enjoy your sun and think of us! xxx
