Hello Everyone
I am now going to tell you the story of "Womens Brain's" virgin journey through New Zealand. We first met Womens Brain in a garage in Christchurch. She is a "wicked camper van". A Toyota people carrier, but remade in to a van! Old car, but the inside was brand new. Two seats in the front. In the back we have, in daytime, the "lounge" ( two sofas and table) and , in night time, a surprisingly spacious bed. The best feature is the "Love Window", big sunroof, for those romantic nights when we fall asleep watching the stars...ha ha ha. The kitchen is in the boot, kitchen counter, water and sink and cooker. Why is the van named Womens Brain you might wonder???? Well it has graffiti sprayed all over it with all kind of funny messages....like "man who fish in other mans well, often catches crab"!!! You will see the rest on the photos. We were extremely happy with our van. As you can imagine you get a lot of attention, people staring at your car, laughing or like some old ladies raising an eyebrow. We even had a Japanese tour bus taking photos of us!!! That's when you don't want a van with messages like "a blowjob is great last minute gift"or "I'm not a gynecologist, but I can have a look anyway" ( like some other wicked vans had!!!!
It is a great way to see New Zealand. To drive around and stop wherever you want. New Zealand is one of the most scenic countries I've ever been to. The nature always keeps changing. Most mornings we would wake up by a lake, no one around, cook some breakfast, set off, stop for tea surrounded by mountains, continue the drive through mountains, fields, lakes, rivers maybe to a beautiful beach and maybe a glacier in the afternoon!!! Camp by another lake and watch the stars!!!
Only thing being a backpacker is the budget! We couldn't afford campsites. All cooking we could do in the van, there are lots of public toilets. But showers became the biggest problem, specially cause we are very active, running, hiking walking... And we didn't want a smelly Womens Brain! So we started almost playing a game, how can you blagg a free shower!!!! Lets say there has been a lot of cold showers, in beach changing rooms, swimming pools any public shower you can find. I have to say that I was laughing when it hit me, that I was standing in the shower in the Queenstown High school's PE changing room aged 27!!! ( but after school hours) Imagine Phil having a shave in a (brand new) bathroom in a shopping mall!!!
Highlights in NZ has to be the Mount Cook area, sooooo Lord of the Rings, driving through Haast Pass with mountains and rivers with water crystal clear and SKYDIVING!!!It was an amazing feeling. Throwing yourself out of a plan at 12 000 feet or 3500 meters. Free falling for 2000m or 40 seconds. The feeling the first few seconds when you fall and accelerating to a speed of 50 meters per second was one of the scariest moments of my life!!! Both me and Phil were high on adrenaline for sometime after the jump!!!!
For Phil's Birthday ( the 15th) we went to see England beat New Zealand in cricket. I've never seen a game before in my life ( on TV or live and I wasn't too sad I hadn't). But I can now say that I sat through 8 hours of cricket!!!! Phil enjoyed it and that is the main thing. Today (the 16th) is my Birthday and we are spending it in Auckland. Shopping...Shopping...Shopping. To finish off the story about New Zealand, I am quoting the writing on the one side of Womens Brain. "Deep inside the brain of every women is another brain, and inside that another, and inside that last one is a microscopic and well stocked SHOPPING MALL"
