After a couple of quiet nights in Koh Lanta it was time for me to spend 2 nights in Koh Phi Phi. Before I get onto what I got up to I would just like to say that the locals have done a fantastic job of rebuilding their homes and lives since the Tsunami completely wiped out the island on the 26th December 2004. They are by far the most kind, caring, considerate and happy people I have met on my travels so far. It might not be paradise anymore and it's going to take a long time to get back to how it use to be, but it is still one of the best places I have visited and everyone that I met there felt the same. It was incredible and I would have loved to stay there much longer but I had to get to Phuket to get a flight to Kuala Lumpur. If anyone is thinking of going to Thailand make sure you stay on Koh Phi Phi for at least 4 nights.
So, I arrived on a very hot Koh Phi Phi in the middle of the afternoon and bumped into Marco whom I had spent the morning drinking with on my way to Koh Phangan and we arranged to go out for a few drinks that evening. After checking into my hostel I headed out and paid a visit to the Tsunami Memorial Park and paid my respects to the people that lost their lives in that disaster. You don't really understand how bad it was in Phi Phi until you start walking through the streets and see all the building work going on and all the rubble and rubbish piled up by the side of some of the pathways. It was a really moving and sobering experience for me. After I headed to one of the many restaurants and got myself some grub. In the evening I headed out with Marco and a Swedish guy and proceeded to consume quite a few bottles of Thai beer over a few games of pool. After we met up with a few girls and headed to a bar that was doing a 'buy one beer and get a bucket free deal'!!! This was the start of a very long and messy night. I think I went to bed about 5 in the morning after a 12 hour drinking session. I don't normally stay out this long and I later found out the Red Bull in Thailand, which was in some of the buckets we drank, contained amphetamine. That would explain a lot of the thinks that happened that night.
The next day I slept until about 1 and headed to a cafe called Little Britain that served an English breakfast and this was my first real fry up since I left home. The bacon, sausages and black pudding was flown in from England!! It was exactly what I needed after a heavy night. After a good old feed I headed to the beach and met up with Marco and a few Swedes and spent the rest of the afternoon playing volleyball with some of the locals. In the evening we headed out again for a much quieter night and had a few beers and quite a few games of pool. I was the best by the way.
The next day it was time for me to leave and make my way to my final destination in Thailand, Phuket.
