Sleeping in seemed like a good idea at the time.
We had our last breakfast at the Il Ciocco Resort before heading off to Pisa to return our rental car and catch the train to Monterosso. We arrived in Pisa a bit later than anticipated (see above), so we just had time to hop out of the car, take a picture of the Leaning Tower, and drive to the car rental return.
(As an aside, there are a shocking number of places in Italy that only accept cash - including pay-at-the-pump gas stations! We ran into a little hiccup with the ATM, but after a few different ATMs and cards, all was well.)
Just in time, we made it to the train station for our ride to Monterosso, the largest village of the Cinque Terre, a collection of five small villages on the mountainous coast. We settled into our Bed and Breakfast and went out exploring. On a whim, we rented a kayak and headed out to sea, which turned out to be another great adventure here in Italy. The coast is spectacular, and at one point we were far enough out to see all five villages at once!
Tomorrow we plan on hiking through all of Cinque Terre, so it's an early night for us!
