Coming to the end of our trip, is all very sad. Everything we do is now 'our last', this is normally very sad - our last hotel, our last hostel, our last beach town our last border crossing. But I am more than pleased to have done 'our last mammoth bus journey'. 30 hours (thirty people, thirty, three-zero) from the Pantanal to the beaches. This is something I will not miss - our last late bus, our last child who kicks our seat, our last unnecessary stop in the middle of nowhere. Glad it's out the way.
What we are going to miss however are the amazing beaches here. Our first beaches for a few months and we've been enjoying them soaking up the rays in order to be very brown when we see you all. My favourite is the Island of Ilha Grande (yes Portuguese fans that's 'Big Island'. Halfway between Rio and Sau Paulo this tropical island is absolutely stunning, perfect rainforest (or to be strictly truthful Atlantic Forest) and deserted beaches which claim to be the most beautiful in the world. From my position lying on the sand, book in hand I'm not going to challenge their claim.
To get to the furthest beaches you need to hike through the forest and as its damn hot most people don't bother, but we're English don't you know, so this means we are happy to wander around in the midday sun. Actually the forests are cool (well hot actually you know what we mean), and wandering through we get to add another couple of monkey types and a few more butterflies to our ever growing animal list.
After days on the beach we have been winding down our evenings drinking Caprinihas and eating fish straight from the barbeque. It's a hard life. Rio next then home.
