We are well and truly at the tail end of our trip now. We left Tweed Heads on Saturday morning, and made the very short 40 minute trip to Hastings Point, where we were staying at the BIG4 North Star Holiday Resort. Like Cairns Coconut, North Star is an iconic park in the industry, certainly one of the best in Australia, and somewhere we always enjoy visiting. The owner, Ian Beadel, has always been very open and generous with his time, and we value any opportunity to learn as much from him as we can. The reason we decided to move from Tweed Heads to Hastings Point had nothing to do with getting closer to home, and everything to do with staying in this particular park...
We have been up and down to Dreamworld for the last three days. The main reason we haven't blogged is because the days have been filled with all the same things, and there's no need to keep repeating it over and over. Today was our last day there however, because tomorrow, we pack up and move to South West Rocks, our final destination before home. And because it was our last visit, it was also our last opportunity to challenge ourselves... Today, we convinced Dylan to do the Claw!! He's resisted every day, flat out refusing to go on it, or even consider it, and just watching the ride reinforced his decision to give it a miss. But today, I told him that it was his last opportunity to prove how brave he was, and that if he'd just trust me, and give it a go, that he would love it. And if he didn't love it, he could still say he's been on it, and not have to do it again... So he did. And we did it twice. He loved it... Sensing an opportunity, I then tried to convince him he would also love the Tower of Terror, if he'd just give it a go. No dice! Just the name was enough to ensure that that ride was put on the list for next time... Worth the try though... So, while Jez and I queued up for Tower of Terror, Jo and Dylan went and played with the baby tiger cubs, which turned out to be the better option. After standing in line for an hour, Jez and I were right in front of the door to the loading platform, when they made an announcement that there'd been a technical issue, and the ride would have to close until it was rectified. They had no idea of the length of time that would take, but they appreciate our patience if we wanted to wait. I'm not known for my patience, so we joined the mass of people making their way to the exit, and we met up with Jo and Dylan, and made our way home.
It's been a wonderful 4 days though. I can't think of a better way to bring this grand adventure of ours to a close, than to finish it off by spending time at one of the theme parks. This is the end, there's nothing else, the next couple of days really are just the trip home. We know this part of the country pretty well, we've visited it over and over, and there's not much left up here to surprise us.
The weather has been off and on. It's rained at night, and we have scattered showers through the day, but nothing that has reached us at Dreamworld, only when we come home. We've been living on noodles and soup for dinner, as we're mostly too b*****ed at the end of the day to be bothered going out, but we all enjoy it, and they're quick and easy. Jo doesn't know how she's going to cope when we get back home, dinner is just something she hadn't had to worry about for most of the last 3 months. But we're all looking forward to getting back. Our own beds, our own space, and sending the boys back to school...
Besides, the sooner we get home, the sooner we get to plan the next one...
We're like the Rocky movies... There's a guaranteed sequel...
