Saturday 5th January; we have transferred to El Calafate in Parque Nacioanl Los Glaciares [South]. Willis, David and Gillian have been joined for a few days by Willis's sister Wendy. We all arrived by early evening and had an excellent sophisticated meal in town.
Sunday 6th January; picked up from our hotel for a trip to Perito Moreno Glacier. After a 2 hour drive we had our first long distance view. The first glacier that David, Willis and Wendy had seen. The close up views were awesome and we listen to the growling and groaning and were stunned by the sudden collapse of part of the face. The trip included 90 mins at the viewpoint and 60 mins infront and under [!] the glacier on a boat. This was an amazing day.
Monday 7th January; another excellent day. Boat Trip on Lago Argentina firstly to Spegazzini Glacier taking in icebergs on the way. On the way saw the hanging glacier Seco and several others. Then progressed on to Upsala Gacier which is the biggest in the area and seeds most of the icebergs. Then landed from the boat and walked to Lago Onelli where the Onelli Galcier feeds into a small lake 20 mins walk from the boat. At the same time we could see Bolado and Agassiz glaciers. On the way back we had a very close view of condor. What a day!
