Penny's Big Adventure
Hi everyone,
Fraser Island was stunning. The largest sand island in the world and the sand is like white powder, very similar to Whitehaven beach actually.
I spent two nights and three days on the island with 10 other people in a 4x4 exploring the island and had great fun. The lakes are stunning and all different colours; red, yellow, green and blue. Very beautiful scenery and if you're lucky, you can see turtles, dolphins, rays and sharks from Indian Head, which is the highest point you can drive to from the east beaches. Unfortunately for me, I didn't get to see much, but I did see a few dingoes roaming around our tents and car at night - a little bit unnerving but no mishaps there. However, on the second night we managed to hit a large tree root and bent the wheel rim sufficiently to let out all the air in the tyre. So there we were, in pitch black trying to change a tyre whilst dingoes and other creatures of the night slowly circled us. I think everyone was wide eyed at this point. It took us a good hour to change the tyre - long story - but we finally made it to the campsite by 9pm and drank heavily to release the day's tension.
Back to Hervey Bay afterwards and I've met a few really great people there and am sad to have to say goodbye to them.
