Firstly, Congratulations Shipps and Natalie in the birth of little baby Sydney. Can't wait for you to e-mail some pics!
We're now in Melbourne. We left Sydney on a 3 day tour down to Melbourne. Along the way we stopped at some really scenic sites and interesting places.
First stop was the capital city of Canberra. Here we visited Paralement and the war museum. Stopped for lunch in the dead city centre. Wouldn't have thought this was the capital as it's sooo quiet. We then headed to Jinderbyne, this is a ski resort in the winter. It was really nice and we stayed right on the lake. The place had a lovely swimming pool and sauna but loads of wierdo locals. The next day we went for a hike up the mountain, as it was so cold and windy we cut the walk short and went fishing for a few hours. Obviously the lake didn't have any fish in as we didn't catch anything!
In the afternoon we headed to Lakes Enterance, we arrive late and didn't actually see the lake till the next morning. We headed off early down to Wilsons Prom National Park. We had a nice walk and then ate some lunch on squeeky beach. Then we made the long journey down to Melbourne.
Upon arriving we stayed for a few days just out of the city in St Kilda. It wasn't the nicest place. Paul done a bike tour of the local area. All the Melbournians do is drink coffee in posh cafes!
While here we went to see an Aussie Rules match with a couple of our friends, unfortunately it wasn't a popular match and there was only 16,00 fans in the massive 100,000 seater MCG. The match was wicked as it was a close game all the way through. We got right in to it and even had our faces painted and bought hats! Our team lost though.
As Carly agreed to come to the footie, the next day was devoted to Neighbours! GREAT! We booked the official tour which took us round the School, Grease Monkeys, Mechanics, Ramsey Street and finally met with Dr Darcey. Carly absolutely loved it and Paul was the camera man. That night was the Fabulous Neighbours Night. Here there was a quiz while Madge, Dr Karl, Jannelle & Connor came round and met the devoted fans! Libby and Karl later sang while we got drunk and boogied. Our friend Louisa even won a dance competition. By the end of the night Paul was now a converted Neighbours fan and it was an awesome night.
The next day we headed to the city to stay for a few nights. As we were still hung over, Paul stacked it getting off the tram, with the guitar, food bag and back pack it was one hell of a fall. Unfortunately with the fall he has broken his Guitar! Oh no! Don't worry he's going to buy a new one!
We spent a day walking around the city looking at the few sights and taking in the atmosphere. We also hopped on a tram and did a loop around the city.
The following day was the Great Ocean Road trip, this was a really long day with alot of driving on windey roads but we stopped regularly to look at beautiful sights along the way. First stop was the famous surfing place, Bells Beach before having morning tea at an Aboriginal Centre. Then we stopped and spotted wild Koala's before heading to a National Park for a hike. The 12 Apostles was the highlight of the day. It's like nothing we've seen before and was a beautiful place to visit. We also stoped at a Gorge and then to London Bridge before the long drive back.
Yesterday we visited Queen Victoria Market to pick up some last minute souveniers before we head off to New Zealand later on theis afternoon. We're both really looking forward to New Zealand although it's going to be a freezing cold!
Love to all
Carly & Paul
