In the Skies Over, UK
Actual Date 2/28/11: Ok so this is it I'm on my way to London my first overseas flight. I was so nervous and I've never been nervous to fly but this a big leap for me. My first happy moment on my flight Yeah another female sitting next to me that looks normal and thats nice!!! My second happy moment we are the only 2 in our 3 seat row!!! Yeah Space!!! My third happy moment my flight partner is 17 and thought I was 25 (before I told her my real age) Such a sweet girl LOL. For all privacy we will call her J. J and I said our hello's and did our basic introductions at the beginning of the flight and then moved on to more serious buisness of "who's the smelly guy not wearing deorderant" and "OMG that guy in the other cabin is HOT". As we giggled over annoying kids and the forever coughing couple in front of us. Our flight was going by fast. This overnight flight thing wasent so bad after all. J and I decide to pick the same movie "Eat, Pray, Love" C'mon we ARE chicks together on a flight afterall...
Our in flight meal comes and its not to bad. Either its cabin pressure or the complete lack of food consumption on my part because I was afraid if I ate I might revisit it later in the air. But happily that didnt happen. With J fadeing fast and her long legs folded up in a clearly uncomfortable sleeping position I offered up our beloved middle seat and the side of my leg as a pillow.
As I faded in and out between my list things to do on my trip and staring at the picture of my husband I always keep in my purse. The entire reason I was on this trip was that this was going to be our Honeymoon. We had gotten married on 10-2-10 and Paul (my husband) left for his job in Afghanistan on 10-13-10. That day tore me apart and literally was the hardest day of my life. I had been through childbirth but at least I got an epidural for that. There was no shot in back for the pain you feel when your new husband walks away to a flight alone.
But yes I was fast approaching Heathrow where I would soon beable to see and hug and kiss my husband. Don't these planes go any faster? LOL
Morning in the London time zone was well over and noon had past as well when I was awakened by yet even more coughing from "that woman" in the seat in front of me. I lost count how many times I just wanted to tap her on the head and give her the cough drops I had in my purse. Knowing me they had been in there at least a couple of months but this would ease my suffering and help her to shut up...But No it's all good I just kept my eye on the goal and just tried to think happy thoughts. Well after I regain feeling in my knee under J's arm and the side of my face that was smashed in the side of my window pulltown for the last 4 hours. Surpriseingly I woke refreshed.
The morning coffee was strong but it was great just what I needed. Funny it didnt feel like 1pm and thats where my battle with the time zone began LOL.
As we desend from the clouds rain pelts the windows...Ohhhh Rain cool. The fack that I live in Arizona should give you the clue as to why I could have stared at the rain for hours. We dont see it that much but when we do get it I've never unhappy.
"Wow is this place Green" I said aloud (another thing we dont get to see much in Arizona) as the country side flies by I see the cutest homes. I've seen homes and cars my whole life from flights. But those were all in the US. These were special these were "european houses and cars".I'm sure the thrill fades but just let me have my moment...Ok.
The landing was hard and abrupt just what I needed a harsh wake up call to jolt me back to the subject at hand."Welcome to London" the FlightAttendant blared over the speaker. My first foriegn experience. Everybody off the plane and down the Stairs. Wait.....What .......Excuse me?.....Down the what? Why did I pay over $700 for a nice-non-stop flight to walk down stairs and get crowded into a bus and taken on the senic backlot tour of Heathrow. J starts laughing and just looks over at my clearly disgusted pamper me and hold my hand American face and says "Welcome to England".
