Chiang Mai is where the big trip really kicked off for me , im so behind so am going to cut this a little shorter than it really deserves.
So from Bangkok we took the night sleeper train approx 14 hours , this train really was something special , the beds was comfortable we had air con and people always asking if we needed drinks or food.
The train also consisted of a smoking area and a bar where kareoke kicked off, overall a great experience and would definatly do it again should i do such a distance.
so we arrive at Chiang Mai train station and the amount of Tuk Tuk drivers and people screaming for hotels and lifts etc was just crazy , espeacially when you are sleepy and its sooo hot with a huge bag on your back.
So we went in for it. Through the crowds we said no to everyone untill we got our bearings, when we thought we knew what was going on we accepted a lady and bahted her down by 50 baht.
What we didnt realise is that they had public buses which look like TUK TUK.s which we could have got for 20 baht each.
whoops now we know , so eventually we go with the lady and her husband who happend to be tour guides apparently and was very pleasent and wanted us to contact them again for tours , however once we realised we got done for in price we didnt bother.
We stayed at a place called Spicythai , the reviews was pritty good , when we pulled up we wasnt to sure what to expect as the building its self was nothing like the hostels we had stayed in , in Bankok.
We continued to check in and everyone was very friendly and the room was cheap and had air con, we droped our stuff and had a quick shower and headed out for some food.
The road we was staying off was a posh road where professionals such as doctors , lawyers live etc , this was the only guest house / hostel here.
There was a lot of expensive western types of places to eat and also lots of bars and massage places. we walked around for an hour or so just checking out the area.
Once we had eaten we went back to the hostel to check out if anything was happening , everyone who was back from either trecking or shopping etc was sat in the lounge area watching movies on the 50 inch surround sound TV.
was very homely, we could help our self to drink and just tick it off and the prices was practicly shop prices so i had no problem with helping myself. On the second day we decided to get one of the buses and head down to the old town which had loads of places to eat and shopping markets. plus its arcutecture.
We had a good look around and got ourself very lost which was a little frustrating at the time but fun looking back.
We eventually decided to get another bus back and get showered up.
The hotel was very friendly and always had something going on as a group lined up. nearly everyone from the hostel went out to a local food place with the owners of the hostel, there was too much fish for me but the food was amazing.
a couple of beers later and everyone is having a wale of a time.
Eventualy we all finished eating i think there was about 20 of us this night , great way to meet people and actually bond.
The third night was one of the owner birthdays and wanted to take everyone out for the evening. We started in a local bar around the corner from the hostel. Wow the locals know how to dress up , it was very posh , the owner ( the famous Mr Pong ) bought 3 bottles of whisky and then got 1 free from the bar so we all got stuck into that.
This whisky was soo good and everyone was on a great vibe, the music was becoming very local so we all decided to go to the raggaue bar, wow this was a night to remember, the bars were heaving so many people having an amazing time. everyone with Wisky and Chang everyone was getting well into the dance floor.
The next day everyone was a rough as anything and literally sat around the TV all day with water and tea. was hilarious.
After we all recovered we had another night out together organised to go to Thia boxing , i hadnt been before so was a little excited as i have heard so much about it. so 18 of us jump onto a back of a van and head into town. we arrive and buy VIP tickets for the front row. 7 rounds. started amature then got better then at the end 3 Thai boxers and a guy from the croud was blind folding all fighting each other , the poor guy got battered, i did feel sorry for him he was red raw and blue when he came out. then back to the raggaue bar for round 2. by this time i had bonded well with a couple of people at the hostel and was really enjoying my self but we was a little (15 mintes from the centre and decided to go and stay a little closer to town with pool as we was both really looking for a little relaxation in the sun and where better than a pool.
So we booked into MD house which funny enouph 2 minutes from the bars and Raggaue bar.
This was a nice conftable hotel and a bit different from dorms which was nice espeacially if we are near the bars and come back drunk , not cool in a dorm.
so we went out a lot for food and of course got drunk as you do but the vibe wasnt really the same as it kept raining in the evening so the bars was not so busy till very late. still a good night out with little kids slapping your bum telling you to buy all the girls roses. and the boys come over really persistant to buy a bead chain of them. very sweat but at times annoying.
After this couple of days me and Craig decided to do seperate parts as we wanted different things from the trip, so i heading back upto Spicythai and hungout with a couple of guys i had met before which was a lot of fun.
I then realised i had lost my bank card by leaving it on the keyboard of a computer in the internet cafe ( whoops ). so had to wait for my cash card to be topped up. more to come still on chiang Mai
