Started off with a 5 hour bus journey followed by 2.5 hour boat journey to a "resort" in the heart of the worlds oldest rainforest. Checked into our "chalet" and met the guides. After a dinner of chicken and rice (which we also has for breakfast, lunch and dinner the following days) we were ready for our first night trek. Unfortunately it was raining (as it does in the rainforest) so we decided to postpone until the following day.
We wandered back to our room where we had hung our mozzie nets in prep for a good nights sleep. Well, the nets certainlyt kept the mozzies out but also kept the bed bugs in!!! Millions and millions of them. We squashed as many as we could but it was futile. at about 1am we thought ok, let's just try to sleep. We didn't sleep a wink, they were crawling all over us. We were shattered and disgusted. The following morning we saw fat ticks all over the wall, probably enjoying their meal from the previous night. We hate, hate, hate, hate HATE them. Full day of activities including, worlds longest canopy walk (45m above ground level), white water rafting, visit to a "jungle family" and night jungle walk. Knackered. Managed to swap rooms for a better nights sleep.
Did't see a single animal worth mentioning apart from lots of leeches which was interesting.
