Still reeling from the hangover, we checked in with the Palm beach bungalow office. We were informed that unfortunately their speedboat had broken down so we were going to take a local boat to the island. Excited to actually get a chance to mingle with locals, we hopped into a tuk tuk and went down to the...cargo pier!
20mins later we had set sail on a cargo boat with about 10 other men and our guide. The experience was priceless! They were constantly offering us beers and telling us stories about local life, as well as trying to get Dilan to climb onto the roof! During our time here I've found Cambodians to be very friendly and generous, considering their troubled and sad history. Our guide explained during the civil war, there was no access to education unless you became a Buddhist monk. He lived as a monk for 10 years in order to learn about the world, before giving it up to work.
Midway through the trip, we stopped off at a local village to drop off some supplies, which was also a great experience in itself, and then we finally made it to our destination. Let the week of chill begin!
