Pete & Pam go Travelling
Rules for Bangkok:
1. Don't assume people can understand you!
Only about 5-10 % of Thai people can actually speak English. Therefore you end up with random things on you table that you didn't realise you had ordered. Good for trying new things though!
2. Always carry a bottle of water with you
It is really hot & sticky and although there are small shops selling water all over the place it is handy to have with you.
3. Always carry a camera!!
Don't forget this one! There will be so many opertune moments that you want to capture. We forgot ours when we got taken to a strange restaurant and wished we had it!
4. Never ask a Tuk Tuk driver to take you to a restaurant of his choice!
Bad mistake no.1!! We ended up at an old converted warehouse surrounded by tanks of fish & shellfish that you had to pick one. It was all charged by the 100g. I chose a Garoupa fish that weighed in at 1.2Kgs!! Needless to say we learned an expensive lesson! Also had a bit of a dodgy tummy the next day!
5. Never buy wine in a restaurant
Wine costs over the odds here in Thailand and isn't particulary nice.
6. Don't cross a road unless you are completely sure nothing will run you over!
Thailand doesn't seem to have a highway code. There are loads of motor bikes, taxis & bus type vehicles. There is no right or wrong way of going down a street. You can fit four people onto the back on one motor bike none of which are wearing helmets & just drive!
