This past weekend, Jenn, Jared and I set out to Reims, France. it was a much needed trip and getaway from Limoges. Limoges is great as a business city, but not so much for sight seeing.
We started off the weekend early for Reims on Saturday. Once we arrived, we basically just walked about a mile to our hostel. We checked in, put our luggage down and were basically out the door to go to Taittinger. When we got to Taittinger we found out the last tour was full but it was in French anyhow, so we would have to come back the next day. Jenn and I weren't too worried as we had plenty of shopping we could do in all the shops in Reims and most of the stores would be closed on Sunday anyway. We had a pretty good time and found some cool things, but then we were hungry. It took a lot of walking and searching before we finally stumbled upon a place that sounded good to all of us to eat dinner. The place was called Cosi and had really great food. I was very happy. We finished off our dinner and our night with some Limoncello and then headed back to the hostel to call it a night.
Sunday morning we were up early and on our way to Taittinger for our tour. It was very nice and the caves were really cool. After the tour was finished there was a champagne tasting which we were pretty excited about. We all ended up getting a bottle to take back home for a special occasion. Then we went sightseeing and went to the two beautiful churches in Reims and some other places. And to end our trip to Reims we had lunch where we ran into an American family from Arizona that had actually been on the tour with us in the morning. It was pretty exciting to have a real conversation with other people besides ourselves since our French is somewhat limited.
(Sidenote: I did have a whole conversation in French this week except for maybe a sentence when I went to reserve our seats for the train to Paris this weekend. Very Exciting!)
On our way back we had to switch trains in Paris but had a three hour wait and thought we could do some sight seeing there, but we were welcomed by pouring rain so it wasn't very fun and we didn't see anything. :( Oh well this next weekend we are headed back to Paris for the air show in Le Bourget and some real sightseeing this time.
Tout a l'heure!

Subject: My French Adventure so far...
Bon jour!
I just wanted to give everyone a little update about my trip so far.
If you need to get ahold of me, just use this email address or my ou address (both are [email protected] or @ou.edu) If you really want to send me snail mail, the address is:
Paige Tibbetts
c/o IUT du Limousin
Allee Andre Maurois
87065 Limoges Cedex
France
And our telephone number is 33.555.43.44.48. If you have a phone card you can call us at the apartment either on the weekends or after work, but we're 7 hours ahead of everyone in Central Time.
Our apartment is pretty spacious considering we all have full beds and armoirs in each of our bedrooms. We have a tiny kitchen, but it has a mini stove and a fairly big refrigerator considering everything is smaller in Europe.
I've set up a blog site to post pictures on and put updates about our travels on at www.statravelblogs.com/paigetibb
So far we haven't done much sightseeing, as Limoges isn't the most popular tourist attraction. We've mainly just found our way around town and moved into our apartment. We still have to make plans for our side trips to other cities, but for now, we are just practicing French so we can sort of talk to the people we will be working with, although we've been assured that the companies we are working with have people that speak English so that we won't be totally lost when we start work tomorrow.
That's all I've got for now, but check out the blog site above to see my pics and read some more about our trip so far.
Hope you are all having a fantastic start to your summers!
