Owen and Sarah's adventure
Well this is a long time coming, but our first update from Australia!
We have been up to so much, we flew up from Sydney to Cairns, to begin with we spent the first week in hostels up there, we went to Port Douglas and spent a few days there, hired bikes and cycled down the beach - in the rain, was kinda fun! They had a good sunday market, and the hostel we were at was really cool. We then went on a trip up to Cape Tribulation, were we went walking in the rainforest and went on a crocodile cruise in the Daintree rainforest, saw 2 crocs, only 2 metres long though, no big ones that are 7 or 8 metres, shame I really wanted to see the big one! and 2 massive python snakes. We had a tour guide that we think had swallowed the rainforest and cape
tribulation guidebook, he didn't stop talking for
about 6 hours!!
The next day we went out to the Great Barrier Reef snorkelling and found Nemo! Among a
whole load of other colourful fish and we saw 2 giant
turtles Wow! and the biggest of all the stingrays, (bit
scared of that one after Steve Irwin died from one) Luckily we didn't see any sharks! The reef was beautiful, one of the 7 wonders of the world, we saw massive clams and got lots of pics with underwater cameras.
We picked up our campervan a week ago now, and are loving it, it's so much fun, we've driven quite far down the coast each time driving for about 3 hours to get to the next place worth stopping, pretty long driving distances, Owen loves it! We stopped at Paronella park, (thank you jenny for recomendation!) a castle built by a waterfall, quite ruined now but interesting, we saw an aboriginal dance show here, was funny, they danced/acted out how to catch a kangaroo, and chop down a tree etc. But the didjireedoo playing was amazing! Much better than Owens earlier attempts on one!
We stopped in Townsville, a really nice town and got a car ferry over to Magnetic island for a few days, this place was beautiful, gorgeous beaches and sea, I wanted to stay for longer, we went on a walk and saw a wild Koala bear in a tree, it was a mum with a baby, so that was cool, and we've seen lots of wallabys, no kangaroos yet though. We fed parrots in a park here, literally 100's come swooping and land on you, was crazy!
We also went inland to Charters Towers, where thay first discovered gold in Australia, had a couple of interesting tours, but didn't stay too long, before driving 4 and half hours to Airlie beach, where we are now, we are going on a Maxi yacht sailing cruise of the whitsunday Islands tomorrow, it's gona be so amazing, both very exccited!
Hope you are all ok, by the way we love it out here so much, we might just stay, Australia is brilliant!!
Love Sarah and Owen xx
