We left Rota on Friday 12th and sailed about 35 miles further south east. We sailed half way then the wind dropped and we motored.
We passed cape Trafalgar (we saw no ships, galleons or otherwise), however the sea became very choppy due to shallow water and wind over tide, the boat was pounding through with waves coming over the bow and rolling over the coach roof.
Paul very unwisely choose this time to visit the toilet.
Unfortunately the toilet hatch doesn't close properly since the jib sheet got jammed under it and broke the hinge, so Paul got a shower as he sat on the loo!!
We are now moored in Barbate and we have found a Spanish galleon moored against the quay near the fish dock, where there are hundreds of large rusty anchors, I think we have discovered an anchors graveyard.
We have had to stay another day due to strong winds 6-7 and rough seas in the straights of Gibraltar.
We all went for a walk in the nature reserve along the coastal path, very scenic but hard going in soft sand with lots of flies.
I slipped down an embankment on the way back and sprained my wrist, ouch!
So I get to try out the first aid kit, the cold pack Shiyam gave me is very useful and I get out of doing the washing up.
