Getting ready for our adventure
Berkeley, California
2 days to go: The suitcases are out and we are all sorting through what we think we'll need during the next 2 1/2 weeks. We've already decided that the smaller carry-on sized luggage will not do. Footwear alone will take up space, plus we are dealing with two different climates. Hong Kong is similar in temp to what we have now, but Cambodia and Vietnam are sweltering in 90 degree temps plus 70% humidity, rain showers, and whatnot.
We've all begun or have taken some of the meds for malaria and typhoid. The malaria Rx gave me an unpleasant stomachache yesterday but unlike the boys who have to take a pill daily for 2 weeks, mine is one tab a week for 4 weeks. I can hang with that.
Currency exchange is eye-opening. The Vietnam Dong exchange rate is US $1 to $22,426.55 so yeah, this is going to be a bit challenging. Thankfully, Cambodia's favored currency is the US$, so we're good there. I don't plan on spending too much in HK (famous last words) so that isn't a giant concern anymore.
Last-minute stuff to take care of I hope is minimal. We'll see.
