Doesn't time fly when you are having fun. We are already more than half way through our first newcastle sit . This sit has been great . The house is amazing and so well organised. We could really learn a thing or two. The animals have been great too. Cass the dog is funny but mostly really well behaved . He is very energetic and loves his walks twice a day and would spend all day on the field playing if we let him. It's giving Nigel good exercise. LOL.
It has been great to see the family and Reuben our grandson is getting so big now.I really wanted to spend more time this year seeing him and it looks like we will as we are up in mewcastle or scotland for much of may- august.
The weather has been really interesting . Some days we have had warm spring weather followed by hail , snow and sleet, as a result we haven't really done any sight seeing while we are here even on the bank holiday weekend. It has felt like winter some days. Decided when we go back to Bristol we need more jumpers definitely.
This sit has been full of birds. literally . The female budgie henpecks the male all day , one of the chickens called pepper is broody so she has been getting bad tempered . This means she wants baby chicks which she cant have . In spring apparently chickens hormones kick in and anything can trigger the broodiness. We tried cooling her nesting area as the hormones make her breast hot so in theory if we cool it down she will stop getting broody. Didn't work, so now we are locking them all out of the coop all day to keep them cool once the other 3 have laid their eggs . They have shelter if it rains but not as comfortable. A few days of this will hopefully work.
In the meantime nigel has been playing tug of war with the bolts holding the seats in the minbus. He has successfully managed to get two seats out ,only another 13 to go!!
We didnt find a replacement sit for the one in mullion that cancelled so have had to book a cottage with wifi so I could work and make calls . Abi and Kieran kindly offered their home but we thought it would be alot with such a crowded house so decided on the former option. So next week we are staying in yorkshire on a farm . Our House sits are now booked up mostly until april 2016 with a few gaps left to fill in august , october , november and feb/mar. Looks like we might be spending Christmas and New Year on a remote smallholding in the lake district. Been told a 4x4 may be a good idea if it snows or be prepared not to move for while.
We don't mind getting snowed in over Christmas and New Year. We will just have to stock up .
