The Start of our Holiday
Hammersmith, UK
The trip over leaving Friday 3rd May and the 1st day
We had a good flights and trip over despite not getting our upgrades. We were very disappointed to find out at the check in that we were seated apart. However with good work from the most wonderful crew they managed to swap us around so that we sat together on both legs. It meant that with changes of seating and luggage within the aircraft Richard has lost his jacket, a real blow but at least he can buy another. Transit was a bit of a mission in LA but not as bad as Andrew had we only needed to clear immigration and go to the transit lounge.
We enjoyed the food, the inflight entertainment and we had nice people to sit next too on both legs. It wasn't the "long flight" we had anticipated, I fact I enjoyed it. It was then the 4th May.
Andrew and Camille were there to meet us which was wonderful, it's just lovely to see them and to be here with them. They had Oyster cards ready for us and we caught the tube to Hammersmith and then it was a short walk to their lovely little, very comfortable flat. We unwound, had a cup of tea etc, was persuaded to open my cards and Andrew and Camille's gifts for my birthday since it was 5th in NZ. I have been very spoilt with lovely cards from Richard made by Robyn, lovely card from Russell and Kaye, and Andrew and Camille had gone to a lot of bother beautiful cards, Camille has done me a cross stitch of the Shambles in York, a Pandora charm of Big Ben and a cute pen, all beautifully wrapped. What a start to my birthday. We then headed out to have a walk along the Thames at Hammersmith. By this time the sun came through the clouds though still a wee bit chilly. We had a nice light late lunch at the "Rutland Arms" and walked home.
Richard was shattered by this time and really struggled to keep awake. I think I must have had better sleeps than him on the plane as was quite ok, maybe I still had the excitement keeping me awake.
We had a quiet night, We had yummy Thai food for dinner and then off to bed.
