It is our final full day in Santorini and we started it off with a nice full and hearty breakfast at mamas house! (Where we ate dinner on our first night here). We then hopped on a bus to Kamari beach on the east coast again and where we got on a connecting bus to go up to ancient Thira. Ancient Thira is a old settlemt initially founded by the Dorian's in 9th cent BC and then later taken over by the Spartans and then finally the Romans in the 1st cent AD. The roman influence is clearly seen by the remains of ampitheatres and the famous roman baths. What's crazy about this location is that it is way up top on a massive headland that jets out by itself on the relatively flat east coast and it takes a 8-10 minute drive up a crazy steep switch back road to reach the top! Why they chose to settle up here in such a difficult location to access can only be reasoned by its strategic defense position and the ability to have 360 degree views of the surrounding sea. Its a nice short hike up to the top ancient city once the boss drops you off and thank God there was a good breeze as its another 30 degree day! After exploring ancient Thira we hopped on a bus back to Fira to relax and cool off in the pool at the hotel. After a good dip we got cleaned up and hopped on a bus up to Oia which is on the northern most point of Santorini and famous for its beautiful and token sunset views. However we found the place to be quite crowded and was pretty much a gong show of tourists if you will. We walked around town and the narrow alley ways with the signature white and blue buildings surrounding us. We found a good spot to eat and enjoy the view and finished off the evening with some delicious gelato from Lolita's before catching the bus back to Fira. Its our last night in Santorini and found the last 4 days have flown by! We feel like we have done and seen everything we wanted and more and have really enjoyed our time here! With that we are very excited to move on and take the ferry to Naxos tomorrow!
