Puerto Varas was our new destination after Chiloe. We arrived checking that the police were not following us. Once again we had returned to booking our accomodation in advance following our previous days debacle.
We turned up at our new hostel to be greeted by a load of dreadlocked crusties who were some travelling band of musicians, friends of the owner. They let us in and instructed that we take the first dormitory. They assured us that the owner would be back at some point in the afternoon. We went out for a drink and to get some food. On our return the owner was still not there, however our new Italian roommate was. We got to know him over a beer. There was a girl who had turned up to work just in time to serve us some cold ones.
The hostel was pretty cool, it had a fridge that they had converted into a beer container and tap on front to pour beer. The girl would serve these and then apply the novel locking mechanism to ensure none was taken by mistake. She however finished work at 10 and left us 3 in the house with no-one else. She also failed to put the lock on the beer correctly - this was a big mistake with a thirsty Welsh and Italian duo in the hostel un-supervised. Free beer for the night :)
The next day we upped and left bidding our Italian aquaintance Andrea farewell, with our South American criminal career fully in flow now.
