Well, why not?
Heysham, UK
My second ever half marathon, completed in approximately half the time of my previous attempt, and 30 years later!
Not only did I vastly improve my time over the previous run, which incidently left me unable to walk for nearly a week, but my last effort was completed exactly one year after open heart surgery. To be precise I had undergone a quadruple heart bypass operation, which apart from having my chest cut open, also involved stripping veins from both legs to splice into my heart to bypass the arteries which were around 90-95% blocked. It seems these veins were surplus to requirements as far as my legs were concerned.....
Obviously I was somewhat pleased with my running efforts. So what next?
Well, as the last time I tried a run on this scale was also around the same time as I said goodbye to my last regularly used motorcycle, it seemed a good idea to plan a 3 month tour of the USA by bike. And while I was at it, why not throw in a detour to Canada for a martial arts grading test.
It sounded like a great way to celebrate my 60th birthday in July 2015.
After all, what could possibly go wrong?!!!
