souk saadai everyone. Were in cambodia now. new place new language. Only been here for 4 days but just had the most amazing, terrifying and grueling and hellish adventure so far. We arrived in the north of cambodia in a grim little town called stung treng. We didnt know where to go from there so we hired a couple of moterbikes and drivers for 25 dollers a day. We then proceded west (a traditionaly unlucky direction) across the country side and through the jungle. The rainy season is well underway and the 'trail' had deteriorated beyond description and recognition. For 10 long hours we had to haul the bikes through waist deep jungle rivers and dense forest, bridges that turned out to be very flimsy planks across gigantic cravasses and villages that hadnt seen white people for a long time. We crashed countless times and laurens leg is bruised because the bike fell ontop of her a few times. I ripped my ear on a thorny bush that we passed at high speed. This trip may have been possible on a decent scrambler bike but we did the whole damn thing on a couple of 50cc honda wave oc 4 speed stepthrough mopeds. We had to stay a night in a random village in the middle of the jungle and ''slept'' on a bed with no mattress. 3 days and 30 grueling and terrifying hours later we have reached civilization (siem reap - going to see ankor wat soon!!). Communication and relations broke down between us and our two guides who were hurtling through potholes at such a speed that we snapped the back axel on one of the bikes, got a few flat tires and flooded the engine so many times; we must have changed the oil 30 times. Also nearly crashed into i dont know how many buffalos. My bum hurts so much i cant sit, but thats what adventures all about eh? This is a crazy country. civilians wandering around with semi automatic weapons with spare clips in their breast pockets aint no thang here! It was an unbelievabley rough ride but i am just about in one mental and emotional peice. Wish i could say the same for lauren but she is sitting next to me now a quivering wreck mumbling something about trees and slaughtered pigs. Thats what adventures all about people but we are never hireing unlicensed guides again. They had the cheek to try and fleece more money from us at the end but we told them where to go!! (back to stung treng). Leir sun hai
