Olly & Bec's European Adventure!
Hi All, well we met up with Jill and Neil for a couple of nights in the Ardeche region which was really nice. We spent yesterday canoeing (yes that's canoeing, you read it right) 6 miles down the ardeche river. What can I say. I expected a kind of leisurely paddle down the river in the sun but what I got, of course, was completely different. It started off well, Olly, my cousin Jess and I had a good rhythm going on. Left, right, left, right then we hit a couple of rapids. At first I thought we'd kind of just sail through with the current but I soon learned you had to hit them with speed. Of course I panicked and my left, right instructions soon changed in to 'it's too late, we've had it!' as we went head first into the biggest rock known to man. I'm still not sure how we survived but we did only to go on and do it again a little later. That time a man and his wife had already capsized and we were heading straight for them. This time I didn't stop paddling but it was also too late and we hit him full on. Luckily he was ok (we think) and we just spun round and got stuck on some rocks. I was so scared but I guess it was pretty fun. Not sure I'd put myself through that ordeal again though (thanks Jill & Neil.) That said we had a really good time. We stayed in a gorgeous Chateu on top of a huge hill with a french couple who were lovely. We walked back from Jill & Neils campsite however quite late on at night through the scariest hills with only a few white lapmposts which of course attracted loads of bats. We were mega freaked out (olly the most) and legged it home.
Anyway, off to Paris now then home on sat; See you all very soon
