What an exhausting day! Our guide Tu met us for an early start to show us the morning local market. We some particularly peculiar things - like big beetles and grilled rats. Also, these beautiful tiny birds in cages designed to be set free - pretty cruel for a Buddhist country...
Then we went to the royal palace and temple, just beautiful!
Then up a mountain for a gruelling trek to another temple with a stunning view of the city and its two rivers, then down and around to yet another temple. Then through the town to another temple with some stalls outside.
We learnt about all the Buddha poses and how the fat Buddha is a Chinese Buddha and came about cos a man loved a woman who said he was too short and to eat more to become tall, so he did and became fat, so she still didn't love him and he became a monk...
Then we stopped for lunch at a beautiful restaurant called tamarind, where we ate tofu salad and chicken stuffed lemongrass. Then off for part 2: another temple followed by the most beautiful temple in Luang Prabang. Then over a rickety bamboo bridge to a village where they make paper and silk weaving. Then finally back to the hotel for some drinks and r&r!
