Woke at 5am, before my alarm, kinda used to these early mornings now!
Got some coffee and toast and headed off at 6.30am.. Tour guide Tom will be our driver and minder for the next few of days.
There was a 5.5 hour drive to Kings Canyon where we walked the 6km rim. It took us 3.5 hours cos we stopped at some lookouts on the way.
The temperature was 42 degrees in the shade and could reach 55 degrees in the direct sunlight.. Because we were walking the rim, we walked in the direct sunlight but the breeze was making life a little easier even though it was a warm breeze!
It was essential to have a minimum of 3 litres of water per person to carry with you otherwise you don't get to do the walk!
To my relief there weren't that many flies, this area is famous for it's millions of flies.. next month will be a different story though.. they crawl everywhere, into ears, the back of your throat and up your nose!
The first section of the walk involved a steep hill called heart-attack hill.. for obvious reasons! after that it was pretty flat.
The ground and rock was so red but there was some greenery as well as it had rained more than usual this year.
We stopped for a swim at a waterhole called The Garden of Eden. The water was murky but really warm yet refreshing!
Dried off in about 2 minutes and continued with the walk.
Onto the bus again to collect some firewood and supplies and get to our camp before nightfall.
Mark managed to get home with no delays at all.. He even managed to get first class from Perth to Singapore! Jammy fecker.
We stopped at a viewpoint on the way to see Mt. Connor at sunset. It's a rock.. everything up here is rock!
Set up camp in a cattle ranch which is almost the size of Belgium. We had to set up camp under torchlight and then we got the fire going... Chicken and rice for dinner.
We slept in swags around the fire under the stars... Aussie style!
There is zero phone coverage once you get 30 mins outside Alice Springs and nowhere to charge any device so I thought it was best to save my batteries do that I could take pics.
