Herr Walker - Mein Kampf
Hallo,
Welcome to day 10 of Oliver and Jonny's Eurotrip blog.
Since we have arrived in Berlin all the travel and planning has really caught up on us and we've been very tired and a bit jaded at times to be honest.
When we arrived in our hostel yesterday the breakfast wasn't too dissimilar to that offered in Luxembourg. It was more advanced though…offering a wider variety of meats and cheeses along with toast, yoghurt, fruit etc.
We were sat waiting around all day until 3pm before we could get in our room. We really couldn't be bothered exploring because we were so tired. In the massive courtyard there was a huge bed which could fit about 20 people on sat down so me and Jonny decided to nap on there before I was awoken because….you guessed it…..I was snoring. I don't know what's wrong with me. I never knew I snored before, but im putting it down to lack of sleep, alcohol consumption and severe tiredness!
We got into our room where we had a shower each and then went straight for a siesta! I was woken by a hungry Jonny at 6pm with a kick in the back demanding we go in search of food. Apparently when I had been asleep a new room mate had been in, showered, changed, and went back out again all without me stirring!
We head off down friedrichstrasse towards the main touristy points, seeing the big tower thing which I think is a TV mast before walking down the main road turning up towards the Reichstag. It's weird seeing famous landmarks but it's impressive when you come across them all without planning to. This was the same as we looked up towards the ginormous Brandenburg gate (1 of 18 built back in the days of the Nazi!). Just before we crossed beneath the gate there was a whole buzz of activity with cranes and TV crews. Taking no clues from all the posters and disabled people I "assumed" it was to do with the Paralympics. We dined out just right of the gate and had a delightful mixed grill before we headed back towards the hostel by way of the river so Jonny could wave at yet more boats as they passed by. Not noticing the flags and lack of women, I had to inform Jonathan he was waving/caressing his nipples at a gay cruise! (What a pickle he gets himself into!)
After a few beers we hit the hey in preparation of another mass city escapade. It was no word of a lie as we awoke and went straight in search of Checkpoint Charlie which is literally a few minutes walk down freidrichstrasse. We took a few pictures and then decided to follow the wall (Now mostly cobbles in the road) towards east Berlin where a mile stretch of wall still remained. We walked for ages! When we came to the wall again, it was another impressive cultural experience we both enjoyed. We walked half way up the wall before discovering a gap inbetween in. After taking a look roun the corner we found an awesome beach bar, complete with sand, deckchairs, beds, parasols - the lot! We had a morning Corona here and an hours tan before heading up towards the metro by way of abusing a gypsy that hose piped us (not with my expensive camera, shizenkopf!).
Again we came to the centre (friedrichstrasse) before taking a different route and trekked all over south and south western Berlin, taking a few humorous videos for our fans as we went.
For dinner we stopped off for a very cultural, very fresh, very German spaghetti bolognaise before returning to the hostel to prepare for our departure to Prague tomorrow (5am rise - shiza!).
Berlin has been very laid back and we have enjoyed the weather, vibe, beer, food and women but I'll be glad to move on as I believe I am in for a treat when I get to Prague!
Ta ta for now.
