Today was a hot and sticky travel day.
We started on a 20 minute Tuk-Tuk, then an hour and a half coach from New Sukhothai to Phitsanulok.
9.30am at the bus depot, in Phitsanulok, we made the (what turned out to be fatal) decision to get breakfast; spicy thai sausage for me, and a more healthy option of a whole pineapple for Siobh. Tasty!!
Tuk-Tuk to train station.
10.30am, arrive at station to find that a train had just left at 10.18am and the next train south was leaving at 1.45pm!! Should never have stopped for breakfast.
After purchasing our tickets we were informed that the train would be on the platform at 11.30, and if we wish to sit next to each other then it was advisable to get on the train at 11.30 and secure a seat!! So an hour was spent sat on the platform waiting for the train to pull up. Two hours was spent sat on the train at the platform waiting to leave! Solid plastic seats, 35 degree heat, and the fear of train toilets (after my Vietnam train experience) made for quite a s***e few hours. Very few words were exchanged between me and Siobhan in these few hours. It was a case of every man for themselves. Sit, don't move, and try not to think about the sweat dripping from every gland on your body, or the fact that if we hadn't stopped for breakfast we would be nearly there by now!
After several announcements that possibly stated a delay we set off as planned at 1.45.
For some unknown reason, we arrive an hour later than scheduled in Lopburi. Now 8pm and having been on the move for a little over 12 hours we quickly found a cheap guesthouse, some tasty stir fry restaurant and a shower.
Today was quite horrific, but it's now over. It just becomes another story to tell.
Also I should mention that Lopburi is resident to a gang of monkeys. We spotted at least 20 already, bouncing around the electricity lines and balconies of the town!
Tomorrow looks to be much better!
