We had planned to visit the falls the day we arrived, but after the long bus ride and arriving at our hostel with a huge swimming pool and 30 degree heat we decided to relax and go early the following day. The town of Iguazú is extremely small with only 30,000 people and you can walk through the centre in 5 minutes. We still enjoyed wandering around in the sun and later on lounging by the pool playing cards.
We woke up early on tuesday to catch the first bus to the falls. We were amongst the first people to arrive which was perfect for taking photos and spotting wildlife! Early on we spotted 4 toucans fly over head, and various other brightly coloured birds.
A squirrel was sat waiting for us around one corner at which point Nathan screamed and ran away. It wasn't at all scared of us and even looked a bit angry so we hurried on past.
We could hear the waterfalls almost as soon as we entered the park and each view point we stopped at offered us a different angle of the falls and the views became more and more impressive as we got closer. Soaring above the waterfalls were hundreds of large birds which later on we saw up close, nesting on the mountain side. Nathan spotted them first and said "it's a big turkey up in the tree!".
We took a (very quick) boat to San Martin island which gives the best view on the falls from the Argentinian side and also soaks you as you are right up close. On waiting for the boat there were loads of small lizards scuttling around over the rocks.
We had a ride on a speed boat which took us right under the falls, which meant we were completely drowned but it was a lot of fun and in the heat we dried in no time.
We enjoyed our own lunch of hot dogs, olives and cookies, away from the restaurants where loads of coatíes were jumping on the tables trying to steal food. We also spotted a larger lizard making its way over the grass, and some more birds with a bright blue flash on their heads. There were butterflies everywhere, all brightly coloured and patterned.
We took the ecological train to the very top of the main waterfall where we stood right on top looking down which was incredible, the pictures don't do it justice! On the walk over we were lucky to spot quite a big turtle resting on the rocks below the bridge, and also a couple of huge fish.
We left the park extremely impressed, agreeing that it was one of the best days of the trip so far. When we got back to the town we headed straight to the Tres Fronteras (the meeting point of borders of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil) in time to catch the sunset over the river.

Pb I'm impressed by how Nathan is so in tune with the nature!
