Yes we bit the bullet and shelled out a ridiculous sum of money to visit the Galapagos Islands. We opted for the five day tour (the least amount of days in which you can enjoy a worthwhile tour) aboard the Darwin yacht.
Although I was a semi-reluctant participant I have to say it was fantastic. The islands are pristine in themselves before you even get onto the wildlife. We visited Baltra, the Plazas, Santa Fe, Espagñola, Floreana and Santa Cruz. We saw sea lions, turtles, two kinds of boobies (snigger), iguanas, albatross. pelicans, frigate birds and mockingbirds. We snorkelled with all kinds of fish, sea lions, rays and sharks and as a bonus on our last day we saw a whale (no idea what species!).
And despite the fact we went for a second class option, the boat was great. We had a very small cabin but the group we were with were great fun, the food was very tasty - and much to Russ´ liking there was lots of it.
All in all an expensive but amazing week, check out the photos.
