After a 1PM awaking (blame the jet lag...and maybe the late night in a sportsbar playing 'lucky') me and stevanos managed to lock ourselves out of the room by accident, so we took the Metro (Subway) to Kowloon to go visit the Worlds biggest Buddah stutue via the Ngong Ping Skyrail. The glass bottom Ngong Ping Cable Car is a hanging visually spectacular 5.7km bi-cable ropeway. As the first of its kind in Hong Kong, the cable car starts from Tung Chung, crossing the Bay towards North Lantau and travelling high into the mountains (approx 2750 Feet up). You can see temples, lakes, waterfalls...in the middle of no-where high in the mountains. With the altitude being so high, the fog/mist made visibility quite poor, but was decent enough to see at lower levels though.
We climbed the 268 steps to reach the platform where the Buddha is seated. The eyes, lips, incline of the head and even the right hand (raised to deliver a blessing to all), combine to lend great depth of character and dignity to this stunning statue. The figure of the seated Buddha is 34 metres high, was cast in China and took over 10 years to complete. Weighing 250 tonnes, it was unveiled in 1993 amid deeply religious ceremonies. The poor visibily stopped us from getting some decent pics of it, but the buddah was stunning.
We also eat some local food dish today (instead of KFC and MC'Ds haha) from a restaurant that had a English written menu. Ordered a beef noodle dish, was pleasantly suprised for it to arrive with some sort of eel skin soup. mmm....
Ste ordered a pork rice dish, both had to eat it with Chopsticks, which took me about 3 hours and looked like we had a sick food fight all over the table afterwards. Also got to watch some of the Argentina game, these chinks are absolutley mad for the footy here!
Its now 4.21am in the morning, feeling nakered as a badger on a treadmill, so am off to bed. peace out. Got some quality thngs to do tomoz & cant wait for the England match at 2.15AM!
C'MON ENGLAND!!!! laters
