Unfortnately I got sick overnight on Friday, possibly from that horrible dinner, but our guide seemed to think that probably wouldn't have been the cause since it was cooked, but anyway, whatever, it wasn't very nice. Suppose I had to get sick at some point, but it was pretty hard to get up and on the bus for 7am feeling the way I was. The journey to Puno took about 6.5 hours and those hours probably beat those 6 hours on the Galapagos boat in terms of horribleness! It was hell and by the time we got to Puno I was just ready to get into bed, where I pretty much stayed for 24 hours. Unfortunately that means I missed the trip today out to two of the islands on Lake Titicaca (the world's highest navigable lake) and the homestay tonight with a local family on one of the islands. Feeling annoyed about that but there was no way I could have gone the way I was feeling at 7am this morning when they left. So I have just rested lots and caught up on sleep, and fingers crossed I am feeling better, hope it stays that way. I am supposed to be meeting the group tomorrow on the floating islands so hopefully I'll get out on to the lake and see them at least and I'm sure people will have lots of photos I can look at. The floating islands are made of reeds, apparently constructed from many layers of the reeds which are replenished from the top as they rot from the bottom- should be interesting to see! On Tuesday we go to Cuzco, which takes about 7 hours I think, then the group has a day there before they start the Inca trail or the Lares trek. Myself and a couple of others then have an extra day there before making our way by guided tour through the Sacred valley to Machu Picchu, where we'll meet the rest of the group next Sunday. Looking forward to it! :-)
