I managed to get to the beach in Mancora on Sunday for a few hours as I was feeling better :- ) I also changed my mind about my next stop which was going to be straight to another beach town but decided to stop off in a place called Chiclayo to visit some nearby archaeological sites. Bus to get there took about 6 hours. The place I picked out of the LP turned out to not be the best option- hard mattress (definitely the worst bed I had had so far!) and very hot room, leaking sink and no toilet paper. Oh well it was only for 2 nights and didn't have time to change the next day as I went on a tour. On the tour we visited 3 places; the pyramids at Túcume, the 'Museo Tumbes Reales de Sipán' and the tombs at Sipán. At the first site we saw pyramids, which were covered a lot in mud so you couldn't see their original form, but there were lots spread out over a really big area which you could see from a viewpoint. Excavation work is being done at this site and at the tombs in Sipán. Here they have found many artifacts and various tombs. In 1987 they discovered the royal Moche burial site of the Lord of Sipán. In the museum you can see the things which we discovered at Sipán; e.g. ceramics and jewellery. There is a mock up of Lord Sipán's tomb who was buried with his wife and various other people, including his concubines who were sacrificed. From memory I think there were 9 people in total in the tomb plus a dog and a llama. The Lord of Sipan's remains are in the museum too. It was an interesting day and I was glad I'd stopped off to visit.
