Nim in Oz
Well sadly i am home now but i thought i should write one last entry to finsh of my trip journal.
Our last day in Australia we drove to Tully whihc is about 2 hours from Cairns. it is a place which has been in the news not so long ago. A cyclone came through Tully and destroyed the huge banana crop and the rainforest. Although this happened a few months ago the effects of the cylcone are still evident, the rainforest has suffered really badly and the trees are bare and hardly green at all. it will take several years for the rainforest to repair itself. There were also many houses which were destroyed and this could stlil be seen, many houses were still without a roof and many had just been abandoned. Fortunately the banana crop was starting to regrow very quickly and the banane market in this region is nearly back to normal.
Today in Tully we were white water rafting down the Tully river. This river is a hot spot for extreme white water rafting and other sorts of water sports. We traveled 15km down the river over the day. With a stop for a bbq on route. The rapids were all different, some were almost vertical drops while others were like a maze. White water rafting is really hard work (if you put the effort in!) but loads of fun!! We were really lucky that our raft didn't flip over and we only lots one girl in the water, which was entertaining! :) It was an excellent finish to our trip.
That night was a busy one, trying to pack all our stuff up. Due to the events at Heathrow we were very limited on the amount of luggage we had to take home. it took me hours to decide what i was willing to leave behind so that i didn't have to pay huge fines at the airport for my luggage being over weight.
The journey home was extremely long with 3 plane rides and to long stops at the airports. The planes were also full so there wasn't a lot of room to stretch out/ But we all made it home in one piece and i have spent the couple of days since i've been home asleep mainly! i think it sgoing to take a few days before i ajust back to uk time.
I've had an azmaing trip and Australia is definately a place i want to visit again!
