May 17th and 18th. Sydney
- In which nearly everything possible goes wrong.
The last blog was giant, but then again a lot happened in Fiji so it had to be really. Rest assured this one is a lot smaller, I was only in Sydney for one night, passing through on my way to Cairns. It would have been even briefer were it not for a law restricting flights into/out of the airport between 10PM and the early morning. All well and good for those living nearby but not nearly so good for those of us planning to wait for their morning flight in the airport as this means they close it at 11PM...as such shortly before this time I found myself on a train heading to 'central,' because it sounded central, with not a clue where I was going.
I pounced on the first hostel I came across and readily booked in when I discovered they had a bed, sure I knew nothing about the place but its only for one night and how bad can it really be? 32 bed dorm. Says it all really. I crawled into my bed, closed my eyes and somehow willed myself to sleep. I was up early the next morning and soon back in the airport waiting for my flight. So on this rapid visit I can say I don't like Sydney that much! Perhaps its better to wait till later in this journey to dole out judgment however, like when I've seen more it it than one dodgey, cramped, falling apart hostel...
