Nikki and Matt's World Tour
Bangkok is hot, humid, polluted, noisy and smelly - but it's been a great few days here.
The skyscrapers, hotels and global brand names line the streets in complete contrast to the monks walking past in their orange robes going about their daily business.
The traffic is horrendous and the fumes only add to the thick air but we've ventured on a few tuk tuks to get about this massive city.
One great mode of transport was the river taxi, an express service taking people along the Chao Phraya River to their port of call. We used it to get to Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn), which has the highest tower in Thailand at 81m high. The temple is completely covered in fragments of Chinese porcelain and looks very beautiful.
We then hopped on the river taxi again to get to the Grand Palace, a huge complex of glittering buildings and temples shining in the sun. It looked fantastic; huge structures decorated in golds, coloured glass and shiny mosaics.
But we've also enjoyed plenty of nightlight. Our hotel is just off the Sukhumvit Road, a lengthy strip full of shopping centre, bars and resturants.
The Skytrain also runs its length (an elevatated mono rail) so its been useful to get about.
Last night we also went to the famous Khao San Road, the backpacker haunt where Leonardo DeCaprio spent his first night in The Beach.
It is quite a small road, but full of market stalls, food huts, bars and bright lights. It was cool and we spent an enjoyable evening soaking up the atmosphere.
Today we're hanging around our hotel (there's a swimming pool!) waiting for a bus to take us to Koh Samui, one of Thailand's famous islands. After all our city breaks so far, I can't wait to hit the beach! It's a 12 hour overnight bus journey, but hopefully we'll manage to get some sleep!
Take care,
Love Nikki
