Nikki and Matt's World Tour
Well our trip through South East Asia is continuing apace, as we're now here in Kuala Lumpur after a massive bus journey from Thailand.
The city is loud and very hot, but we seem to be getting aclimatised to the humidity and have done quite a bit of sight seeing.
The city is famous for its structures and can boast a few extremes - KL Tower is the world's fourth largest communications tower and the Petronas Twin Towers are the tallest in the world (although I'm not sure how they would have compared to New York's?).
We've wandered the city on foot quite a lot, visiting Chinatown, Little India, the Central Market and so forth.
We're actually here at quite a good time, as on Saturday we saw a big cultural celebration that only takes place once a year. There were fireworks and hundreds of dancers in Merderka Square (Independence Square). We didn't get a great view but it was good to soak up the atmosphere.
As a relief from the hot weather, we also spent an afternoon in the Lake Gardens, sitting next to, by coincidence, a lake. It wasn't quite as relaxing as you may imagine though, as a homes and gardens exhibition was on so the park was packed. Never mind.
Tomorrow we're hoping to get the bus to Tioman Island, on the east coast. It is described as a beautiful tropical island with sandy beaches, clear waters, coral reefs, jungle mountain trekking trails and waterfalls. In fact, it was the setting for the 50s musical South Pacific. Should be fun!
Hope you are all ok anyway,
Take care,
Love Nikki
